WHO WE ARE
Our History
Maroon Inc. was founded in 2021; its name governed from the Maroon people, who are freed slaves that took refuge in the mountainous Jamaica regions, thought to be the first Africans to develop refugee communities. Maroon's mission is to cultivate community, and provide training and equity solutions to education leaders and small business leaders in New Orleans and across Louisiana. We approach our clients through an equity lens. Our programs and services ensure that the principles of equitable and inclusive practices are embedded in the decisions and policies of an organization. Further, our strategic direction and guidance creates the conditions that leaders of color need to thrive.

Our Founder/Board Chair
Jade Brown-Russell is a proud native of New Orleans. She is Principal of JD Russell Consulting, LLC, a full service consulting firm focusing on regulatory compliance, legal counsel, corporate turnaround/workout services and governmental relations. Jade focuses on providing results-driven strategies and outcomes for her clients, which have included public and priva te sector agencies, including the the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, the Plaquemines Port, Foundation for Louisiana, Harrah’s New Orleans, ESSENCE Communications, STEM NOLA, City of New Orleans, City of Shreveport, LA, City of Montgomery, AL, The Finance Authority of New Orleans, Crescent City Community Land Trust.
Our CEO
Dr. Jawan Brown Alexander is a local educator and the former Chief of Schools for New Schools New Orleans, a nonprofit organization that serves as a strategic partner and is committed to delivering on the promise of excellent public schools for every child in the New Orleans area. Dr. Alexander brings more than 25 years of management experience to this role, including significant executive leadership experience in major non-profit organizations. Dr. Alexander manages Maroon's education division with current clients including University of Holy Cross, Xavier University, The Willow School, Lake Forest Charter, 826, GNO, Inc., and others.
Our COO
Monique Bourgeois is currently the Chief Operating Officer of Maroon, Inc. and is the former Compliance Officer for the City of New Orleans. Monique has extensive background and expertise in operations and change management. A member of senior management, Monique contributes to the organizational and business development strategy with a lens on compliance and monitoring. Monique supports current clients including BREC (Baton Rouge), Ernest Morial Convention Center, Port of New Orleans, and others.
Our Project Manager
Monique Egana specializes in project, process, and operations management, and business process analysis and brings over 20 years of experience. Monique anticipates needs and has the foresight to see steps ahead, allowing her to collaborate to mitigate challenges effectively. Monique's manages Maroon's data, analysis, and strategy efforts for current clients including The Willow School, Lake Forest Charter, Jazz Fest Foundation, River Pilots Association, Oxfam America, and others.
